Ingredients:
- 1 block extra-firm tofu, pressed and drained
- 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
- 1 tablespoon pickle juice
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 cup pickle juice
- 1 cup vegetable oil, for frying
- 4 vegan hamburger buns
- Pickles, lettuce, and tomato slices, for serving
Instructions:
Cut the pressed tofu into 4 slices to mimic chicken fillets
In a shallow dish, combine almond milk and 1 tablespoon pickle juice
In another shallow dish, mix flour, powdered sugar, salt, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper
Dip each tofu slice into the almond milk mixture, then dredge in the flour mixture, ensuring its evenly coated
Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat
Fry the coated tofu slices for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy
Remove tofu slices from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil
Lightly toast the hamburger buns
Assemble the sandwiches by placing fried tofu slices on the bottom buns, then top with pickles, lettuce, and tomato slices
Close the sandwiches with the top buns and serve immediately
